Birth!

Please welcome our daughter, Tru Avery Ayn Johnson to the universe!

Born November 29th at 1:50pm at Overland Park Regional.  7 lbs., 8.8 ounces.  19.25" length.

Here's a brief rundown of events:

We were a week overdue.  No evidence of contractions at all.  Eager to do this thing, we decided to induce.  Our doctor advised us to have a nice dinner Wednesday evening, then check in to the hospital at 9pm.  Check, check.

Once settled in, nurses applied Cervidil to prep cervix for action.  Thursday morning around 7am, cervix was deemed to be 2cm and very posterior-aimed.  No contractions.  Petocin drip was started at 2ml per hour.  Dosage was increased by 2ml every 20 minutes.  Contractions began with a whimper at 8am.

Contractions and excitement increased until 12:50pm when the water broke.  Things then went absolutely bananas for an hour and Tru arrived at 1:50pm!  First latch occurred 30 minutes later.  No epidural used.  2nd degree tear required a few stitches.

As of 12-12-12, we're all doing fantastically!  Sleep patterns have been destroyed, but that was expected.

Fun facts:
- Born on the 333rd day of the year.  (I've always considered my lucky number to be "3.")
- 2012 is "Year of the Dragon."
- The name "Tru" was discovered by DeeDee while researching names. Means "honest."  Also Germanic for "spear maiden" or "strength of the spear."
- "Avery" was our original choice for first name, but was too popular.  French/Anglo/American for "Rules the Elves" or "Elf Wisdom."
- "Ayn" is taken from author, Ayn Rand. Also Russian for "gracious."  "Ay" is pronounced with a long "I" as in "Nine."
- "Emma" was another first name that we liked, but was WAAY too popular.

That's all for now.  Thanks for checking in!

Week 40+ Update!

Good Evening, Family and Friends!

Long time since update.  We've been busy busy busy!

Mystery-Name-Baby has missed her official due date by three days.  We're not seeing any contractions.  Next Dr. appointment is Wednesday morning.

Mystery-Name-Baby actually DOES HAVE A NAME, now, but it is Top-Secret-Classified until MNB has answered roll call.

We're hoping she has a November birthday.  We'll certainly post all news right here.  Hope to talk to you again, soon!

Time to catch up @ 37.

Good Morning!

Hello, this is Scott.  Sorry it's been so long.  There hasn't been much baby-info to relate and we've been freaky-busy doing home improvements and other distracting things.

Here we are at thirty-seven weeks.  Pretty much full-term!  The weekly doctor visits have begun.  Due date is still estimated for Thanksgiving, November 22nd, 2012.

The Land-of-the-Lost-Raft-Ride-of-Pregnancy has been very smooth, so far.  No-Name Baby size is 49.5 percentile.  No-Name Baby heart rate is ideal.  DeeDee's blood pressure has spiked at times but overall has been in the target range.  No-Name Baby is currently head-down.  She moves quite a bit throughout the day.  No-Name Baby has no trouble filling her kick-count quotas.

We own an older home (built in 1969).  It was not in the greatest shape when purchased in 2003.  We've performed a few improvements.  One of the big things we've been putting off is new carpets.  It's all pretty old and nasty.  We priced new carpet and even got a whole-house measure.  Pretty steep price.  We decided to re-carpet just the living room and tile the adjacent bath and laundry rooms.  (Those were the most-used, ickiest areas.)

We removed old carpet and pad, original psychedelic vinyl floor (laundry room), wood floor (bathroom), washer, dryer, toilet and cabinet sink.  Next, installed 180 square feet of ceramic tiles in the bathroom, laundry/garage door/back door areas.  Then, had the professionals install the carpet.  It all looks great!  Except now we have a bathroom with no toilet or sink.  Still shopping for replacements.  There are plenty of finishing touches, too, but you get what you get at this point.

On Sunday, October 28th, our friends and families gave us a FANTASTIC Star-Wars-themed Baby Shower.  It was amazing.  We're so thankful for everyone involved.

And as a related follow-up bit of relevant info: The news broke this week that Disney is buying Lucasfilm.  We are ecstatic!  Star Wars VII is expected to release in 2015.  This is a GREAT time to have a baby!

Monday, October 29th, I woke up with a cold.  Just a sore throat at first, but it has progressed daily.  Drugged myself up and went to work Monday and Tuesday, stayed home Wednesday, went back Thursday.  I'm writing this at 2:00am Friday morning because I woke up nauseous.  Not sure if I'll make it back to work today.  Ideally, need to save the time-off for when No-Name Baby gets here.

That's it for now.  Feel free to ask questions and make comments.  DeeDee and I are both fairly scatterbrained at the moment.  Thanks for checking in!

The crazy old vinyl flooring in the laundry room (plays "Taps").

Beautiful, perfect cake (Thanks, Brandi)!

"Relaxation Time. Let Yourself Go."

Ok, we just finished our second birthing class.  It was an evening class in the same office of the hospital that we've been visiting for all our check-ups.

This birthing class was especially memorable because, at the end, we had "relaxation time."

This "relaxation time" consisted of the various teams/couples/partners moving all the chairs to the side then laying down on the floor (remember, of a hospital waiting room) with nothing but two pillows we had brought ("where's your other hand?").  80% of the couples IMMEDIATELY snuggled up together and looked to be fast asleep.  Lights were still on.  Teacher was still talking.  DeeDee and I were sitting there on the floor, looking around with "WHAAAAA?" ping-pong-ball-eyes.

So, we got low and cozy to the waiting room floor.  Carpeted, at least.  We were facing each other.  Teacher turns out the lights and starts up a relaxation CD.  I was expecting soft music or nature sounds.  Nope. Some lame lady quietly saying lame things about some lame activity we're supposed to be loving.  All wrapped in a very wet echo effect.  RELAX....Relax....relax....rel...

DeeDee, very first thing, whispers, "All I can think of is someone farting."  We both start giggling uncontrollably.

Some back story.  I have had bad allergies all week.  Several times, I wanted to leave work early but was able to tough it out.  DeeDee (just today) felt like she was getting sick.  So we were both in great shape to be down on the floor in a quiet room.

Back to "Relaxation Time."  My eyes were watering, nose was running.  I actually had a fart loaded and ready to blow.  We both were exerting ninja-like willpower to stay quiet.  If I actually HAD farted, I would have pee'd my pants, guaranteed.  We would have run out of there in shame.

Someone in the room started snoring.  There was a cleaning crew in many neighboring rooms making a racket.  A door alarm went off somewhere.  A distant door opened and scraped the floor.  It sounded just like a deep bass KRRRRRRR fart.  I couldn't look DeeDee in the eyes.  There were a couple times I had to bury my face in the pillow to muffle the laughter.  We both went in and out of giggle fits.  It was the least-relaxing ten minutes of our lives!

The CD finally ended and teacher gave us a few minutes to "come out of the relaxation slowly."  She popped on one row of the overhead fluorescents right above our heads.  Blinding!

We staggered out of the room and down the stairs.  There was no way we could ride down four stories packed in an elevator with everyone else.

Out of the stairwell into the first floor hall; we sense the end is very close.  One final turn.  The exit is locked!  We struggle to turn the deadbolt.  The doors spring open!  Out into the fresh night air!  Sweet escape!

I believe this experience had brought me full circle.

I remember fourth-grade science class.  My teacher was Mr. Hazlett.  My lab partner was my good friend, P.J.  Our previous evening's assignment had been to read a chapter in the textbook.  The subject had been about, ahem, human reproduction.  To review, each student in class would read a paragraph or two out loud.

Just before we began, P.J. whispered to me, "I hope I don't have to read THAT paragraph!"  Mr. Hazlett immediately called P.J. to read the paragraph about how the "penis enters the vagina."  It was SOO freakin' funny!  I'm pretty sure we looked like pathetic, immature little boys who could not be adults and handle the subject matter like everyone else.  Whether that was true or not, that was the first time I remember having to stifle unstifle-able laughter during an inappropriate situation.

That is all.  We're beat.  GOOD NIGHT!

OH WAIT!  Just NOW, DeeDee came in and reported baby having hiccups.  I listened belly-side and confirmed.  CUTE!

Ok, NOW, good night.

Photo Time II

Per the doctor, all measurements are in the 49-50% range.  Perfectly average!

She's currently sitting "transversely," which means sideways.  It was difficult to get any good face photos.  Got a great FOOT!

21 Weeks

Went to the Dr. yesterday.  Listened to the heartbeat.  Very steady and almost hypnotic.  145 bpm.  Everything looks and sounds great!

We just had dinner; and Baby Johnson seems to be very active after meals.  We can feel some very light kicking/movement already.

Getting ready for Friday sonogram...will update here ASAP!

Names

We have a regular Dr. appt. Tuesday; then another Friday at which we most likely will learn the sex.  Whichever it is, "Gandalf" is our current favorite.

Welcome to Baby Johnson Central!

Happy July 4th, 2012!  Welcome to our Baby Johnson blog!

DeeDee and I are preparing for this mysterious mini-person who decided to show up.

I like to think of it like we're watching "Star Wars" for the first time.  We imagine you'll get a kick out of our reactions to the action scenes and the jaw-dropper revelations that many of you already know.

This is the only digital/online/public location where we will provide all updates about the experience.  We don't want to fill your Google+, Twitter or Facebook feeds with constant baby stuff.  It will all be right here, whenever you want an update or someone to laugh at.

Next week we are scheduled to learn whether it's boy or girl.  Makes no difference; but then again we can start thinking about names; start shopping for clothes, etc.

That's all for now!  Feel free to post comments and ask questions.
